Istana Maziah adalah lambang kemegahan institusi kesultanan Terengganu. Istana ini terletak berhampiran Bukit Puteri, kira-kira 200 meter dari gigi air sungai Kuala Terengganu. Di istana inilah upacara rasmi negeri diadakan seperti istiadat pertabalan kemahkotaan Sultan Terengganu, berkhatan, bertindik, perkahwinan dan sambutan tetamu utama negeri.

Setakat ini terdapat percanggahan mengenai tarikh pembinaan Istana Maziah. Mengikut catatan Engku Pengiran Anum, batu asas pembinaan istana ini dimulakan pada hari Jumaat, pukul 10.00 pagi, 31 Mei 1895 ( 7 Zulhijjah 1312 ) pada masa pemerintahan Sultan Zainal Abidin III ( 1881 - 1918 ). Manakala, catatan Dato' Seri Amar Di Raja Haji Ngah Muhammad bin Yusof pula, istana ini dibina pada tahun 1897.
